Conditions

Little to no precipitation has put trib levels at very low and clear conditions and reducing flow to a standstill, especially in the larger pulls. Fish are being caught near the mouths and somewhat upstream, but typically at dawn and dusk when anglers have some cover from the line shy steelhead. Very light line and small presentations are a must in these conditions. Strikes can be very subtle. A few boats have been spotted trolling at the mouths of Walnut and Elk Creeks and Trout Run with some success. Fishing has been fair to good along the lake shore at Trout and Godfrey Runs wind and waves permitting. Current Lake Erie water temperature is 53 degrees. West County Trib conditions as of Tuesday afternoon were very low and clear.

Walnut Creek Marina Memorial Wall Update: The wall is filling up ! We still have room however for Memorials, a birthday or an Anniversary gift. The pavers are wonderful and meaning full for friends or family who may be difficult to buy for. consider a paver as a long, lasting gift which they can enjoy seeing for many years to come.

There are only three of the large capstones left on the garden side of the wall. These are much larger than the pavers and can be yours for $325.00 each. If you have not been to the Walnut Creek Marina in a while, sto an see the garden and wall and check out what some of these clever pavers say. It is touching and very interesting.

You may pick up a brochure at the Walnut Creek Access office by contacting me directly. The money from the sale of the pavers and capstones goes in to a fund at the Erie Community Foundation to pay for upkeep and maintenance of the garden and wall in to perpetuity.

Law Enforcement:
Several questions have been posed regarding exchanging fish on a stringer or "culling" and continuing to fish after catching one's limit. The answers are as follows:

It is legal to fish catch and release after catching a daily limit as long as no fish are killed and no fish are taken. However, if a fish caught after having a daily creel limit cannot be released immediately and unharmed (for any reason), a violation has occurred. For this reason, it is NOT a recommended practice to continue to fish on a catch and release basis after taking a daily creel limit. While it is legal if the last fish caught is immediately returned unharmed to the waters from which it was caught, because of the chances for noncompliance in such a situation, it's not a good idea. Also, you are not allowed to trade fish from the stringer for bigger ones caught later. Fish on the stringer are "taken" even if they are alive. Once placed on a stringer or in a live well or other container it is part of the daily creel limit. The exception is for fishing tournaments, which require a special permit. You are not allowed to trade a fish from the stringer for a mortally wounded fish caught after you have a limit. Catching the fish that is mortally wounded is a violation even if the intent of the angler was to fish on a catch and release basis. Since the angler would be unable to immediately return it unharmed to the waters from which taken, a violation has occurred.

Anglers should be also be aware that gutting a fish for the eggs and carelessly discarding the carcass can result in a number of violations including litter and unlawful disposition of the fish. Removing the eggs or skein to use as bait is permitted as long as any remaining entrails are properly bagged and disposed of and the fish is not left behind.
