November 21st, 2007 West Erie County, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert Conditions: Off and on drizzle around the Erie area has been common, although as of Tuesday afternoon there had been little effect on the tribs. Although the weekends are still busy, the crowds have dropped a bit with the cold weather and hunting season upon us. Trib conditions are still up from the the last good rain we had a week or so ago, but in general, conditions are clear and on the low side. Flow has been moderate on Elk and Walnut. Patient anglers have been doing fair to good in the Walnut Creek marina basin. Catches along the Lake Shore at Trout and Godfrey Runs have been very good when the lake is calm. There has been enough precipitation to allow fish movement on Crooked Creek and anglers have been taking advantage of this. Perch and Crappie have been biting in the Bay and off the North and South Piers and few Steelhead have made their way into Cascade Creek. Current Lake Erie temperature as of this writing is 44 degrees. Current trib conditions as of late Tuesday afternoon were generally clear with slow to moderate flow. Holiday Shopping: Law Enforcement: Worth Mentioning Again: Open Fires: With the colder weather setting in, anglers will often be tempted to gather loose wood and start fires. Starting, tending, building and especially abandoning an open fire without landowner or land lessee's permission is a violation of the law. This law applies to PFBC controlled properties and Presque Isle State Park as well. Since nearly all fishable land along the tribs and lake shore is privately owned, open fires should not be started unless you are able to provide proof of the specific landowners permission to do so.
