WEST ERIE COUNTY, DWCO Randy Leighton, WCO Brook Tolbert

Conditions: Most of the remaining runoff through out the county has made its way to the lake leaving the area tribs somewhat on the low side and very clear in most areas compared to what we have experienced so far this season. Snow and rain are predicted over the next few weeks that may quickly change conditions. Predicted temperatures look mild enough that the tribs should remain open and extend the fall steelhead season even further. Conditions have been good with anglers taking advantage of the unseasonably mild weather, although with the play offs this past weekend, there was plenty of elbow room. Those willing to withstand a little cold weather know that these mild winters offer some great fishing opportunities without the crowds. Anglers have been doing well off the wall at the Walnut Access as well as the in the marina basin. The Lake has had plenty of calm days and found anglers trying their luck at both the Trout and Godfrey run shorelines. Upper Elk Creek to the Mckean hole has been productive with a fair number of fresh fish in the upper stretches. Live shiners fished under a light float as well as single eggs, and small egg patterns can be killer baits this time of year. Anglers have been spotted on the North and South piers and along the Bayfront at Presque Isle targeting panfish. Current Lake Erie water temperature as of this writing is 37 off Toledo, 34 off Cleveland and 36 degrees off Erie. Area trib conditions as of this writing are clear and dropping.
