** The 15" walleye minimum size limit remains in effect for the entire
season. The walleye limit is 6 fish until March 1. From March 1
through April 30 the walleye limit on Lake Erie and its tributaries is 3
fish. Anglers are reminded that the daily bag limit for trout and
salmon on Lake Erie and its tributaries is 2 through May 15. The
minimum size limit is 12 inches.**

Over the past weekend (Jan. 29 and 30) anglers fished west of the Bass
Islands, around Catawba Island and on Sandusky Bay. Reports ranged from
excellent catches of walleye to little or no success on the main lake
with limited reports of yellow perch being caught on Sandusky Bay.
Anglers that did catch walleye reported very light bites on jigging
spoons tipped with shiners. Anyone considering fishing between Catawba
Island and South Bass Island needs to keep in mind that strong currents
can create areas of thin ice or open water and changing wind conditions
can move ice creating large cracks. Check with local bait stores, ice
guides or other anglers before going out on areas that you are not
familiar with.
