OHIO NATURAL HISTORY PUBLICATION RE-RELEASED THANKS TO STATE INCOME TAX CHECK-OFF DONATIONS

COLUMBUS, OH -- The award-winning publication Ohio's Natural
Heritage is once again available thanks to Ohioans who contributed to the
state income tax check-off programs for wildlife diversity and natural areas
preservation.
Grants from these two funds, which are coordinated by the Ohio
Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), allowed the Ohio Academy of Science
to reproduce the book in CD-ROM format ($19.95). It is also available in
paperback ($49.95).
"This publication is an excellent resource for students and teachers
and a special gift for those who enjoy our state's natural resources," said
ODNR Director Sam Speck. "We are delighted to help the Ohio Academy of
Science again make it available."
Ohio's Natural Heritage, first published in 1979, provides an
in-depth look at the state's natural environment. Supplemented by maps,
photos and drawings, featured topics include Ohio's geologic
characteristics, its plant and animal life in various habitats, and the
first inhabitants of the state. Its popular style and striking format make
it an excellent educational resource for people of all ages.
A portion of net proceeds from the sale of Ohio's Natural Heritage
CD will return to ODNR to help preserve natural areas and save endangered
wildlife species throughout the state.
Ohio's Natural Heritage is available through many local bookstores,
museum shops and nature centers. It can also be ordered online from the Ohio
Academy of Science at ohiosci.org .
Each year, more than 150,000 Ohioans contribute to one of the income
tax check-off programs that benefit the state's natural resources. Ohioans
can donate a portion of their state income tax refund by checking the
appropriate boxes on their state tax return.
Those who are not eligible to receive a refund can send a check to
either the Division of Natural Areas & Preserves at 1889 Fountain Square
Court, Columbus, Ohio 43224 or to the Division of Wildlife at 1840 Belcher
Drive, Columbus, Ohio 43224.
